"I was raised in the traditions of my people and taught to respect the animals with whom we share this land."
"My culture is closely connected to wildlife. For thousands of years we have lived with animals in balance and harmony, learning about their power and energy. We show our respect to animals by representing their images on our ceremonial clothing and featuring them in our dances and stories.
Each animal has many lessons to teach us. For example, we learn to care for our habitat, to live cooperatively with others, to have courage, to think before we act, and to be wise and respectful. Try observing the animals around you. How can you be inspired by their knowledge?
The original drawings in this book are connected with my Bella Coola Community and Nuxalk Nation. My art is committed to engaging children with nature and our culture." - Kelly Robinson, Nuxalk, Nuu-chah-hulth
